Storyboard Text

  • Now the North Africans would walk several miles away from the site so they would avoid any contact with the other group.
  • Now the West Africans would go to the riverbank and would spread gold across the riverbank.
  • Now the West Africans would leave the gold and wait for the North Africans to go back to the riverbank.
  • What are two advantages of silent trade?
  • If the North Africans were happy with the amount of gold they left they would take the gold and leave.
  • If either sides weren't satisfied this process would repeat  over and over again until both sides would be happy with what they got.
  • The process of silent trade had two advantages. First it allowed people who couldn't speak to each other to conduct a trade. It also allowed the West Africans keep the secret of their gold mines.
