Storyboard Text

  • The state of California applies to be a free state in the Union and the people of the government have a difficult task at hand to please the people of both side.
  • At the present moment California was split by the Missouri compromise, but trying to be a free state would upset the balance of free vs. slave states in the form of government power.
  • The ideas would be taken to the capital where an agreement must be made. The north wanted the free state but also knew that the south would want something in return, thus a compromise was bound to happen.
  • Previously the Mexican war had taken place and the US gained  a lot of land in the process, as part of the compromise the government for one of the first times, put the decision of slavery up for vote in each state to men 21 and older.
  • With this compromise the north was happy to have such a large state be a free state and the south was happy to have the southern land be up for vote and expand slavery.
  • With the Missouri compromise gone people would later flood the poles from different states to vote illegally in order to influence the votes in their favor.
