Storyboard Text

  • Exposition
  • I can never rememeber anything because I was handicapped by the HG men.
  • Rising Action
  • Conflict
  • We can't remember anything!
  • The year is 2081. Now, everyone is equal. This because people are handicapped so they can't be extremely good at something. This is the case for Hazel and George. I know this because it said, "THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal." It also said, "And George, while his intelligence was way above normal, had a little mental handicap radio in his ear."
  • Falling Action
  • Harrison Bergeron was a 14-year old who escaped jail. He is really strong, tall and he was arrested for suspicion of trying to overthrow the government. It said, "He is a genius and an athlete." It also said, " He was exactly seven feet tall."
  • Resolution
  • Hazel and George's conflict is that they cannot think correctly. I know this because in the text it says, " Hazel had a perfectly average intelligence, which meant she couldn't think about anything except in short bursts. And George...had a little mental handicap radio in his ear. It was tuned to a government transmitter." Harrison's problem is the HG men and handicaps. I know this because it said, "Scrap metal was hung all over him. Ordinarily, there was a certain symmetry, a military neatness to the handicaps issued to strong people, but Harrison looked like a walking junkyard. In the race of life, Harrison carried three hundred pounds."
  • Theme
  • In the falling action, Harrison Bergeron enters the studio as Hazel and George are watching. He takes off is handicaps and calls up a ballerina to join him. One ballerina ends up coming on the stage. I know this because in the text it said, "Harrison's scrap-iron handicaps crashed to the floor. " Also, it said, "Let the first woman who dares rise to her feet claim her mate and her throne!" A moment passed, and then a ballerina arose, swaying like a willow.
  • The resolution is that Harrison and the ballerina end up getting shot by the handicapper general. At the same time, Hazel and George are watching it on live TV, but they forget. I know this because in the text it said, "She fired twice, and the Emperor and the Empress were dead before they hit the floor.  It also said," I forget, she said. "Something real sad on television."
  • I think the theme of this story is that differences are important. I think this because Harrison is trying to be different, and because of that he is much better at stuff than other people. I know this because in the text it said, "Harrison tore the straps of his handicap harness like wet tissue paper, tore straps guaranteed to support five thousand pounds."  Taking off his handicaps allowed him to be different from other people.
