  •  The Capture of Fort Donelson
  • The First Battle of Bull Run
  • The Battle of Monitor and Merrimac 
  • This was the first major battle in the civil war. The battle was fought in Virginia. Only about 30 miles away from the Washington D.C. The war happened on July 21, 1861. The Union won this battle. This battle was the first major Union win. It took place in Northern Alabama on February 14-15th 1861. The Union was led by Ulysses S. Grant. The win for the Union opened up a route for them. 
  • Battle of Shiloh
  • This was the first major battle in the civil war. The battle was fought in Virginia. Only about 30 miles away from the Washington D.C. The war happened on July 21, 1861. The Union won this battle. 
  • Battle of Gettysberg
  • This battle took place on March 8 and 9th in 1862. This was one of the best battles of the war. Monitor and Merrimac were Iron Clad Worships. Which means that the battle was used with boats. This was one of the more exciting battles of the war. 
  • Battle of Crater
  • The battle of Shiloh happened April 6-7th 1862. This was the largest battle fought in the western part of the country. The south won the first day and then the north came back and won the second day.  There were 3500 deaths this battle. 
  • This battle happened on July 1-3rd 1863.  This was a turning point of the war. General Lee went north to fight the Union.  The North still kept its ground due to the invasions and won the battle. 
  • This battle happened on July 30th, 1864. The Union miners dug a 511-foot mine shaft. They dug this mine shaft because they wanted to bomb the Confederates. The Confederates saw it coming and killed to Union.
