The Aztecs wander around the Aztlan trying to find a place to settle in. They went from Aztlan all the way to the Valley of Mexico. The Aztecs were considered vulgar and barbarians by other groups in the valley.
The Aztecs had to work as mercenaries in several city-states. Eventually after a few years they went and served as mercenaries in a city-state called Azcapotzalco.
The nomadic people were told by their priests that they would build a beautiful capital at the spot where they saw a sign.The sign from the gods was when they saw a eagle perched atop of a cactus holding a serpent in its mouth.
In 1345 the Aztecs founded their capital Tenochtitlan and called themselves the Mexica.They created a great capital. The capital was located on an island on top of Lake Texcoco.
Tenochtitlan is a swampy place but the Aztecs conquered many challenges like going inland for food and water.
The Aztecs made chinampas, causeways, and roadways. Chinampas are floating pieces of land that the Aztecs farmed on. Causeways were roads leading toward in land. The Aztecs traded many things especially spirulina, a gooey nutritious algae.
