To wrap up our last session, I thanked Joseph for letting me complete my fieldwork there. I learned a lot about how different exercises can help individuals who are coming back from knee & hip replacements. This was a different placement not having an OT there but i learned a lot!
For one patient, I was able to use the goniometer and measure his shoulder flexion. This patient had rotator cuff surgery and he could only do passive flexion and external rotation. He was also non-compliant in wearing his sling. This gave me insight that not all patients will heed the precautions and advise.
I was able to run through multiple exercises and stretches with a patient who had a hip replacement. I was able to speak with the patient about how he is able to ambulate in his home and cook. We discussed his upcoming trip to visit his daughter in vet school in Granada and how he will be able to walk long distances without fatiguing.
