Storyboard Text

  • Orientation: Thomas Cranmer
  • I'm sorry but we can't afford to keep you.
  •  Elaboration
  • Okay, I'll do it!
  • I want you to be my Royal advisor and the archbishop of Canterbury.
  • Conflict
  • You cant! The church will not let you.
  • I love you Catherine, but I need a son. We must have a divorce.
  • Thomas Cranmer was born on the second of Jully 1489, in Alocton United kingdom. He was born into a poor family, his father sent him, and his brother to join the clergy. This was the first step of Thomas' religious life.
  • Conflict
  • I must have a divorce, please allow for me to.
  • Thomas made his way through the ranks of the Catholic church.  He believed in Royal Supremacy, meaning he believed the king was above the church within his kingdom. He eventually was given a role to be the royal advisor to King Henry VIII and promoted to be the archbishop of Canterbury.
  • Resolution
  • I cannot believe this! We have done it, Sir!
  • King Henry was married to Catherine of Argon at this time. Catherine and King Henry had tried to have a child, but each time something went wrong and the baby didn't make it.  King Henry needed a male heir to secure his family's rule over the kingdom. He needed to annul his marriage.
  • Elaboration
  • Thomas and the King went to the Pope in hopes for him to annul Henry's marriage to Catherine. When the pope said no, King Henry VIII asked for Thomas's help in creating Henry's very own religion (the English Church), and writing divorce papers.
  • Absolutly not! This is against what we believe in.
  • Thomas Cranmer and King Henry VIII worked together to create Church of England. Henry was then able to create his own laws and rules, to have a divorce between him and Catherine. The opening of the English church lead to a spreading of diverse forms of the Christian religion.
  • Without your help, I would not have been able to do this!
  • Afterwards, Thomas distanced himself slightly From Henry. He then constructed the act of succession and the act of Royal Supremacy, this then meant he was the second highest ranking member of the English church.
