A symbol is a mark or a character used as a conventional representation of an object, function, or process. The symbol that I noticed was the dot on the paper that symbolizes be chosen or sacrifice. And in the article it looked like no one wanted the paper with the dot especially not Tessie. According to lines 304-307 Tessie got the paper with the dot. And the non lines 324 she states "its not fair,' she said. A stone hit her on the side of the head."
TONE & THEME
Imagery is visually descriptive or figure language, especially in a literary work. And there was a lot of detail to show what everything looked like in the text but the part i could see the most was the parts about Mr. Summer. in lines 100-102 I could really see what he was wearing, "Mr.Summer was very good at all this, in his clean white shirt and blue jeans with on hand resting carelessly on the black box."
Figures of speech are words or phase used in a non-literal sense for rhetorical or vivid effect. One type of figure of speech that i found in this story was a simile. This simile was on lines 118 and states "she tapped Mrs. Delacroix on the arm as a farewell and began to make her way though the crowd." This statement is comparing Tessie tapping Mrs.Delacroix's shoulder to a farewell of goodbye.
Tone and theme are two different things. Tone is the general character or attitude of a place, piece of writing, situation, etc. But theme is the subject of a talk, a piece of writing , a persons thoughts; a topic. One tone that i noticed was sympathy from Mrs. Dunbar. on lines 317 it states " Mrs. Dunbar had small stones in both hands", but on lines 314-315 it states "Mrs. Delacroix selected a stone so large she had to pick it up with both hands".
