1215- The foundations of English rights included the Magna Carta and the common law. The Magna Carta established a Parliament , given them control of taxation and said the law applied to everyone even the king.
Restoration- After Cromwell's death, parliament reinstated Charles I's son, Charles II as the king of England. The development of political parties during his reign. Led to their creation was whether him or James II should be king
Political parties- Whigs wanted to exclude Catholic James I and Tarves wanted the king to be in line with lawful succession to the throne. Compromied and allowed James to be king but Parliament passed Habeas Corpus Act - guarantee to foul trial and no unjust imprisonment. James II becomes king in 1685
