Storyboard Text

  • Wow! Look at the view!
  • I can't wait to vote!
  • Please place your ballet in the box when you're done.
  • You must take a literacy test before you vote.
  • In the late 1800's to early 1900's many immigrants came from all over on ships to Ellis Island.
  • Literacy Testing
  • Why are we taking this test?
  • Voting was a huge part of being an American and everyone wanted the right to vote.
  • You never passed, therefore you can't vote.
  • That's unfair!!
  • If you were a white male American you could simply just place your vote, but if you were another race but white you were required to take a literacy test.
  • Lets us vote!
  • The color of our skin should not deny us of an American right!
  • The tests were very difficult to pass and everyone who took it failed no matter what.
  • If you pass this test you may place your vote. You must get all questions right.
  • If they even missed one question they would fail and many people saw it as unfair.
  • Since they were against the idea of this test and laws, they started to protest.
