  • Who was William Shakespeare?
  • "To be or not to be..."
  • Why should he be considered a humanist?
  • Final thoughts...
  • What is humanism? Why would Shakespeare be considered a Humanist?
  • This is William Shakespeare.  He lived in England from 1590 to 1613. He was a writer and a poet.
  • Who was Thomas More?
  •
  • My name is William Shakespeare and I am a humanist.  I wrote 37 plays.  My plays focused and made fun of the social and political   issues of my time. These issues include young love and corrupt leaders.  My plays helped motivate people to create change in their societies or about their lifestyles.
  • Why should he be considered a humanist?
  • A humanist is someone who looks to create change.  They use their past mistakes to overcome challenges.  They think for themselves and always try to improve themselves and the lives of others.  Humanists don't just accept things, they challenge everything and try to find improvement. Shakespeare is a humanist because he faced issues that his society was facing and brought awareness to them in order to fix them.
  • Final thoughts...
  • What is humanism? (Defined Above) Why would Thomas More be considered a Humanist?
  • Yes that's a dog... cause why not.
  • This is Thomas More.  He lived in England during the 1450s.   He was friends with the great Dutch priest Desiderius Erasmus. He called for a reform of the church.
  • My name is Thomas More and I am a humanist.  I believed in the idea of a Utopia.  In this Utopia or ideal society, men and women live in peace and harmony.  No one is idle, and all are educated.   Justice is used to end crime rather than eliminate the criminal.  I am a humanist becasues I was not afraid to try and change society.
  • Thomas More was a humanist because he tried to find ways to change society.  He was always thinking of ways to improve his life and the lives of others.  He viewed everyone as equal and used mistakes in history to try and change society for the better.
  • More dogs!!
