- she senses that dimmesdale isn't quite ready to accept public truth
- in this picture her mom covers her hair and pins the scarlet A back on her chest. both dimmesdale and hester give her a kiss but she wipes dimesdales kiss away
- pearl wiping dimmesdales kiss away signals that reconciliation hasnt been achieved yet. when she was talking to the minister she asks if they will all three will leave together.
