Storyboard Text

  • A new king took Alfonso's place, and he wanted to get rid of Don Isaac. Don Isaac was forced to leave Portugal flee to Toledo in Spain, penniless. There, he wrote commentaries on the Tanach.
  • Don Isaac was then summomed by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella to take over the state treasury.
  • Your Majesty, I believe that we should take off a small portion of the burden that we have undertaken. Perhaps we should not go forward with the building of the left wing of the palace.
  • How many taxes should I ask for per capita?
  • I, the Great Torquemada, think that the Inquisition is a great program! We will oust the Jews of our midst and force them to convert! Ha, ha, ha, ha HA!
  • Please! Have mercy! Do not kill the Jews. I have prepared a list of reasons why you should not make them convert or kill them!
  • No matter how hard Don Isaac tried, and no matter how much he risked his good position and relations, and even his life, he was not able to stop Torquemada and the Inquisition
  • In 5269, at 71 years old, Don Isaac Abarbanel died after a lot of exile and in poverty in Venice. He was a kind, generous, and smart person. Yehi Zichro Baruch.
