In "The Scarlet Ibis" the brother teaches Doodle how to walk because he felt embarrassed of Doodle not being able to walk. The theme is if you have a lot of pride you can hurt others.
"Simon Birch": on Life
In "The Scarlet Ibis " the two brothers and their parents see a big red bird and appreciate it instead of scaring it off. The theme is you have to care for the environment because you can hurt animals.
"Simon Birch": on Faith
In "The Scarlet Ibis" the brother tries to push Doodle to his limit then get scared of a storm then try to run away and Doodle worked his heart too much and died the brother felt guilty. The theme is to be careful of how hard you make others work
"Simon Birch": on Freind ship
In "Simon Birch" Joe wants to talk to Simon after Joe's mom died and Simon told him that God has a plan for everyone. The theme is that life has ups and downs but you always have to pick your self up
In "Simon Birch" Simon argues with the pope about what is going on with him at the church saying that he is wrong to say that he is a hero but then Simon says that he has more faith than the pope. the theme is to never give up on your dreams.
In "Simon Birch" both of the characters give each other their most prized possessions and met up at Joe's house and start talking. The theme is to never forget your friends and respect them.
