In the 5th cornice there are the Avaricious and Prodigious. Their punishment is to be bound by rope and be stretched.
The 6th Cornice is Gluttony. Their punishment is to stare at fruit, without eating it.
The seventh and final cornice is lust. The lustful are covered in sheets of flames, representing the final purification.
Dante says goodbye to Virgil at the while of fire, because part of Virgil's punishment was not being able to go to heaven.
Dante spots the soul of Matilda across the river, picking flowers. This represents the happiness of Paradise
Beatrice arrives in a chariot, wearing a veil that represents pureness. And Dante describes her as a beauty never seen on earth.
