  • The French Revolution happened because taxes increased, bad harvests, high prices, and disturbing questions raised by Enlightenment ideas of Locke, Rousseau, Voltaire. From 1789 till 1799
  • The Tennis Court Oath
  • 1. Growing resentment among lower classes 2. New ideas about government 3. Serious economic problems 4. Weak/indecisive leadership 5. Food Shortage
  • The Storming of the Bastille
  • The Meeting of the Estates General was made of all 3 estates.
  • The Great Fear
  • The Tennis Court Oath was done on a tennis court because the National Assembly got locked out of their meeting room. They would not leave till they had a new constitution made.
  • The people stormed the Bastille to get gunpowder.
  • The Great Fear was a wave of senseless panic through France where peasants became outlaws themselves. Armed with pitchforks/farm tools, broke into nobles’ manors and destroyed documents that bound them to pay feudal dues or burned down the houses altogether.
