A major theme in this book is hysteria. In the opening scene, the young girls were standing around the fire. In the coming days the girls started accusing others of witchcraft. This lead to a mass hysteria throughout the town.
Another major theme is jealousy. All the girls wished that guys they liked, liked them back. Abagail Williams wished that she could have John Proctor for herself and that Goodie Proctor would die. This laid out the theme for the whole movie because Abagial kept accusing the Proctors of witchcraft.
But Goody I have already confessed.
An example of direct characterization is Thomas Putnam. He accused 40 people of witchcraft. Thomas was a man of many grievances.
You have taken my soul, LET ME KEEP MY NAME!!
Marry Warren cracks under pressure. Abigail makes up a lie that Marry's spirit is a bird during court. Mary crumbles under the pressure.
Goody Proctor in court lied for her husband. This was a mistake because John Proctor already admitted to adultery.
