  • The South favored slavery and supported its expansion 
  • the south was angered that slaves were running away so they passed a law that stated runaway slaves in the US territory may be captured and returned to their owners.
  • During the civil war the south produced most of the worlds cotton because of all the plantations and factories in the south.
  • Eli Whittney created the Cotton Gin which would separate cotton and increase the speed of cotton in the south.
  • On April 12, 1861 at Fort Sumter when Confederate troops fired on Union troops at Fort Sumter, South Carolina.
  • On May 9, 1865 the Civil War ended and slavery was abolished after Lincoln passed the Emancipation Proclamation.
