Soda impacts Pony by caring, and always watching out for him. Like after Pony got jumped Soda said "Easy, Ponyboy. They ain't gonna hurt you no more"(8). This shows Ponyboy that people care about him, and that Soda will always have his back no matter what.
Throughout the story, Ponyboy's home life is constantly affecting how he acts. For example, Soda and Ponyboy have to behave or else they will be taken to boys home., "So Soda and I stay out of trouble "(3). Therefore, Pony's home life is always making him behave certain ways, and watching his actions.
A conflict that occurs repeatedly in the book is Darry and Ponyboy clashing. This has taken a toll on Soda because of how often it happens. "I can't stand to hear y'all fight"(175). Darry and Ponyboy have fought so much and this is how Soda reacts and has to leave the situation.
