When I first moved to Atlanta I could not speak proper English due to me being surrounded by my Jamaican family for the first few years of my life.
Million Word Challenge
My attitude towards school was not motivational really and I only enjoyed spending time with my friends. This was mostly due to me not being able to see well so there was no point in learning. But once I got glasses in first grade my whole perspective chaned no pun intended.
My 1st grade teacher who I later had for 2nd and 3rd grade as well really influenced me in my love for reading. Two titles she read to us that really stuck me were The Lightning Thief and a more complex book the Giver.
I am me
There was an event at my elementary school where we had to read books and get quizzed on them to gain "words". So basically the more you read and the bigger the book was the more words you get. With my smart self, competitive nature, and new love for chapter books about mythology and dystopias I won the challenge twice.
I wouldn't say I was mature since I still enjoyed playing and being mischievous like other kids. But my mind was definitely focused on more than that. With my love of reading I would say I would think about stuff to hard. Also showed in my writing. Why would anyone oppress others? What if there is more than one god? My mind was honestly to complex for my own good.
My early love for intricate books due to my awesome teacher really molded me into who I am today.
