  • Lenore?
  • Conflict
  • "While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, as of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door" (1-2).
  • Climax
  • "And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each purple curtain thrilled me- filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before" (13-14).
  • Falling Action
  • "Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter, in there stepped a stately Raven of the saintly days of yore" (37-38).
  • Resolution
  • "'Wretch,' I cried, 'thy God had lent thee- by these angels he hath sent thee respire- respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore; quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore!' quoth the Raven 'Nevermore' (81-83).
  • Will I ever see my lost love Lenore again?
  • Nevermore.
  • "'Be that word sign of parting, bird of fiend!' I shrieked, upstarting- 'Get thee back into the tempest and the Night's Plutonian shore! Leave no black plume as a token of the lie thy soul hath spoken! Leave my loneliness unbroken!'" (97-100)
  • Get out of here and leave me alone!
  • "And the Raven, never fitting, still is sitting on the pallid bust of Pallas just abive my chamber door; and his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming, and the lamp light o'er him streaming throws his shadow that lies floating on the floor shall be lifted- nevermore" (102-108).
