In act one scene one you see the witches in a foreboding atmosphere speaking in a confusing tongue (equivocation, paradox and TT is used). They say "fair is foul and foul is fair" whilst they are standing around a bubbling cauldron.
Macbeth goes to war to fight and return the kings son, Malcolm, to the king. For this is rewarded the title of thane of Cawdor and is also called " a worthy gentleman".
The three witches appear out of nowhere and make a prophecy that Macbeth will be king but so will Banquo's son one day.
Macbeth writes home to his wife to tell her of the prophecy that the witches have told him but the queen manipulates him into thinking that the king has to be killed to become king himself.
n Macbeth and lady Macbeth invite King Duncan and his sons to their castle as a cover but they actually want to kill the king so they can take the throne.
Macbeth and lady Macbeth are conspiring to murder the king and lady Macbeth tell him that she has drugged the king as well as his guards.
