In 1947 some nuns called mary of the cross, sisters Gertrude, Cecella and Laurantine from the fransiscan Missionairie of the divine motherhood were invited to build a school in nathalia by John The Baptist all the way from Ireland, the trip took about 40 days
Bishop Stewart welcomed them to Australia at the Melbourne port, then they Headed to Nathalia for a Party, and to build the school
They were invited to Nathalia with a garden party with all the community and then got onto the hard work!
it took a 1 year to build it but eventually they finished it!
IN 1960 THE NUNS HARD WORK HAD PAYED OFF! THET HAD BUILT A FULLY WORKING SCHOOL WITH 125 KIDS!!

St Mary's College has progressed a lot since then with over 656 kids there and a lot more teachers, it's been through 9 principals and gone through a lot of changes to make it the school it is today they've also created houses since then named after the nuns who built it, they are St Claire, St Elizabeth and St Francis.
