a fault refers to the rocks that are are broken off and these fault occurs in the borderies of the tectonic plates
how do these fault work
will be a big earthquakethen there is strike slip fault which is when two plates slides past eachother and this occurs in the transform boundary and this is what causes friction and the amount of power the earthquake has dipend on the friction between at which they slide past each other if it is slow it would be a small earthquake if there is enough friction and it just slides past
there are three types of fault the first one is normal fault:this happen when the rocks get stretched out and it causes tension and thins out in the middle of the crust and this happen in the divergent boundary
then there is reverse fault where it is the opposite of a normal fault where as instead of getting away it squeezes together.
earthquakes sure sounds interestring what else can volcanoes do?
