  • Opium Wars
  • We need to expand our Asian trading networks!
  • Daoguang Emperor
  • Opium is Illegal! Opium trade is no longer allowed.
  • British attacking China
  • Britain and France wanted to expand their Asian trade networks by connecting with one of the major sources of desirable finished products.
  • Treaty of Nanjing
  • In 1839 the Daoguang Emperor,  rejecting proposals to legalise and tax opium, appointed Viceroy Lin Zexu to solve the problem by completely banning the opium trade.
  • Second Opium War
  • The British government, although not officially denying China's right to control imports of the drug, disagrees to this and dispatched a military force to China.
  • Qing's Defeat
  • In 1842 the Qing Dynasty was forced to sign the Treaty of Nanjing or Nanking. The purpose of this Treaty is to make peace between China and British. However, the Treaty failed to satisfy British goals, leading to the Second Opium Wars.
  • Sorry, but this Treaty doesn't satisfy us.
  • The British and France team up to defeat China. British soldiers loves Opium, so they are willing to fight to legalize the drug.
  • Qing Dynasty lose, The result of it affects the social unrest within China.
