Storyboard Text

  • This is the aftermath of a volcanic eruption. This storyboard takes place after the lave cools down and is turned into rocks.
  • Lichen (pioneer species)
  • Hi, I'm a rock. I'm an abiotic factor and I'm a part of one of the three stages in ecological succession called primary succession. This stage has slow changes because it takes a long time for weathering and erosion to turn the rock into soil.

  • Hi again, I'm soil now. Now I am part of secondary succession. The grass growing above me is a biotic factor of the community. In fact, they are also a producer. The grass growing is quite a fast change as it doesn't take long for the grass to grow.

  • Wow now there are bushes, and small trees growing! This is starting to become a well functioning ecosystem. There are more and more organisms coming as secondary succession is finishing.

  • Fox
  • Bird
  • Hey, now a flower. I am finally part of a climax communty. There are consumers and producers everywhere. The population has grown along with the biodiversity which means it has reached homeostasis. That shows that the sustainability of the forest is quite good.
  •  Tall Tree
  • Bunny
  • 4.
  • Lightning
  • Oh No! It's a natural disaster. The lightning striking the tall trees will cause a forest fire! That will ruin the balanced ecosystem.
  • 5.
  • NO! All of the plants are burning and all the animals have fled or died! All of the secondary succession has gone to waste!
