  • Character vs Society. Elie and his family were moved to the ghettos. They were transported to Birkenau. Then Elie and his dad arrive in Auschwitz. Elie and his dad had to pass the selection or they would be killed. A SS officer helps Elie pass the test with his dad.
  • In the Camp Elie's dad was beaten many times by the Kapo and Elie stood still watching and petrified with fear. They were beaten, starving, and derided. In time Elie lost faith and hated God for what was happening to the Jews. His main focus was staying with his dad. Elie watched many people turn on their own family because their stomach were stronger than their family.
  •  Elie had a swelled foot during the winter. Elie was at Buna, the Russian were invading Germany and liberating camps. Elie and his dad had a choice to stay or flee. They fleed. The SS officer said march to the camp anyone that stops will be shot. When this happened all Elie thought was "Don't think, don't stop, run!" For once he didn't think about his dad but surviving.
  • Elie and his dad were running for several days and many miles. When they finial stopped, they fall on top of each other like a pile of dead bodies.  Elie was in that pile and was trying his best to get out. When he finally did he could see Juliek on top of the pile playing his violin and it was the most beautiful sound he ever heard. When it was he saw that Juilek was dead.
  • When they return to the camp Elie's dad was sick and wanted to die but Elie convinced him to stay alive. Then Elie was the dad towards his father. A few days passed and Elie's dad got more sick until he died. Several days later spies called the resistances helped liberate the camp. And Elie was free.
