Jimmy Valentine got out of Jail. He wanted to forget his old ways and live a good life, so he did, and changed his life for the better. Somebody got locked in a safe , so he had to go back to his old ways to get them out.

The conflict helped solve the theme because getting released form jail and given a second chance at life and that is basically the theme.
