"Even the President has to abide by our decisions."
When Jackson became President he gave people who supported him government jobs. Some people were not even qualified. This came to be know as the Spoils System.
Jackson refused to enforce the Supreme Court's decision upholding the treaties between the Cherokee people and the government. He allowed Georgia to buy and sell land that belonged to the Cherokee and to govern the Cherokee Nation.
Jackson kicked out 70,000 Native Americans to make room for white settlers in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi and he made them walk to Oklahoma. Hundreds of elders and children died along the way. This was called the "Trail of Tears."
