  • Claudius- “That we with wisest sorrow think on him together with remembrance of ourselves.Therefore our sometime sister, now our queen, Th’ imperial jointress to this warlike state, Have we-as’ twere with a defeated joy,  With an auspicious and a dropping eye, With mirth in funeral and with dirge in marriage, In equal scale weighing delight and dole- taken to wife(1.2.6-14).”
  • Hamlet- “Angels and ministers of grace defend us! Be thou a spirit of health goblin damned, bring with thee airs from heaven or blasts from hell, be thy intents wicked or charitable, Thou comest in such a questionable shape that I will speak to thee. I’ll call thee Hamlet, King, Father, royal Dane. O answer me!(1.4.42-48).”
  • Hamlet- “Speak. I am bound to hear.(1.5.7).” Ghost- “So art thou to revenge when thou shalt hear.(1.5.8).” Hamlet- “What?(1.5.9)” Ghost- “I am thy father’s spirit.(1.5.10) Now, Hamlet, hear. ‘Tis given out that, sleeping in my orchard, a serpent stung me.   • Claudius and Gertrude get married.

  • Gertrude- “Thanks, Guildenstern and gentle Rosencrantz. And I beseech you instantly to visit my too much changèd son. Go, some of you, and bring these gentlemen where Hamlet is.(2.2.34-37) Guildenstern- “Heavens make our presence and our practices pleasant and helpful to him!(2.2.38-39)
  • Hamlet sees his father's ghost.

  • His father tells him to seek revenge!
