The rocks are a symbol for fun or playfulness when the kids are playing around, but when they use them to kill they are the symbol of weaponry and death.
Tone and Theme- Relief
Thank God it's not me
"Clear and sunny with fresh warmth of a summer day". The author shows imagery because she's describing the day in detail, and that makes the reader see it in is mind.
Symbolism- Black Dot
The metaphor in the story is, "the grass was richly green", this is a metaphor because it compares two things without using like or as.
Juxtaposition- The Lottery
The villagers are relieved that the Hutchinson family was chosen.
The Black Dot is the symbol for being unlucky, if you get the black dot then your family gets chosen or you get stoned to death.
Juxtaposition is where you put two unlike ideas together. So, the story is called the lottery and when you think of lottery you think of money luckiness and fortune. But in the story it is more death, unluckiness, and misfortune.
