  • Dear Pope, would you please allow me to divorce my wife. Henry VIII
  • Dear Pope, would you please allow me to divorce my wife. Henry VIII
  • Alas, how can the poor souls live in concord when you preachers sow amongst them in your sermons debate and discord? They look to you for light and you bring them darkness.
  • Henry VIII was happily married to his brother's widow, Catherine of Aragon, but she failed to produce a male heir for him.
  • In 1530 Henry VIII wished to divorce her to marry Anne Boleyn; He wrote a letter to the Pope.
  • When the Pope refused, Henry separated from the church to create the Church of England in 1534, a Church that he was the head of. This allowed him to divorce Catherine without the Pope's permission, but also live by a religion that fitted his morals.
  • He married Anne Boleyn, but she too did not provide an heir either, so he had her beheaded.
  • In 1536 after Anne's death, Henry ordered all of England to adopt this new Church of England, that he was the head of. The Church of England was very similar to the Catholic Church; you were to attend every Sunday, you could go to confess your sins to the priest, but the King of England was the leader, not the Pope.
  • Eventually, Henry was given a son, but he sadly passed away at age 15, well after Henry himself had passed away.
