The battle of Hurtgen Forest was fought in the fall of the year 1944.
The battle was fought between the German forces. It included the U.S. 28th infantry division and the 116th Panzor division.
The roads of the forest were narrow, which made it hard for the American soldiers to get supplies. The German soldiers knew there way around the forest and that gave them the advantage.
The U.S. troops had gained very little ground. There reason of being in the battle was to gain ground and push the German troops back.
There was a total of about 83,000 casualties. 55,000 American soldiers killed and wounded. 28,000 German soldiers killed and wounded.
The battle has caused many to lose their lives and the fighting went on for three months. Throughout the months the American soldiers barely gained ground.
