Storyboard Text

  • I wonder if putting this orchid under my microscope will reveal anything about the way it  reproduces
  • Hmm. what is that small oval structure in the cells of this plant?
  • I should test another plant to see if the structure is present. A plant like this ascelepaid.
  • Microscope view
  • New structure
  • And yet again the structure is present it seems to be a part of all of my sample's cells.
  • I will name this new structure the nucleus, for it looks like the seed of the cell.
  • Robert brown would use the word nucleus for the first time in a paper to the Linnean Society published in 1833. The name for the structure was widely accepted and is still used today.
