"You see that tree over there?" asked James. I'll race you to it but you'll start a little to the right of me. Jack agreed, thinking it was the same distance.
Jack tried his hardest but he didn't beat James.
Jack tried over and over again but he just couldn't beat James. "How are you beating me?!" yelled Jack. "I'll give you one more chance but I have something else in mind," said Jack.
"I'll race you across the hill, but I'll let you start uphill so you can have more speed," said James. "Fine, I'll win this time," exclaimed Jack.
Once again, Jack lost. He was furious. "How is this possible??!!" James finally told him his trick. "I always made you take the longest side, which is the hypotenuse. Although it seemed like the same length, your side will always be longer no matter what."
From that day on, Jack respected James and stopped teasing him. He too wanted to learn more math.
