Hurricane Harvey developed from a tropical wave on the Atlantic side of the Caribbean after originally forming of the west coast of Africa. It as identified as a tropical wave on Aug. 17th 2017.
It passed through the Caribbean and hit Texas in Corpus Christi on 25th August 2017 by which time it was a Category 4 hurricane. Maximum wind speeds are 130 mph.
On Aug.27th it began to move slowly SE to Houston while floods were raging due to high rainfall in Texas. Scientists speculated and later said that ths extra high rainfall was due to global warming.
Hurricane Harvey continues on its way across the south of the USA causing flash floods and power outages all over.
The final death toll was 88 people, and cost the American government $125b, almost as much as hurricane Katrina.
Over 6 days Harvey rained 27 trillion gallons onto Texas and Louisiana. 57 tornadoes were produced by Hurricane Harvey. 336 000 homes lost power and 300 000 were flooded. 40 000 flood victims took refuge in shelters and 30 000 water rescues were performed.
