  • The Battle of Fort Sumter was the first battle of the Civil War. Not one living thing died at the battle besides a donkey, but marked the start of the bloodiest war. It was a huge thing for our country because it confirmed that we were in battle.

  • Although Fort Sumter was the first battle, this was the first major battle of the war with many casualties. The Confederates actually won this battle even though more of them died. The Union had too complex of a plan and Confederates didn't have good communication, but able to stop the Union.

  • The war had developed a lot since the Battle of Bull Run. The thing that had changed was that the Union was determined to take the forts connected to water ways away from the South. The General in charge of the fort was a former friend of Grant's and surrendered, there were many casualties for the South.

  • After everything that had happened, the South just wanted to end the war. General Robert E. Lee decided to invade the North and just end it all and force them to negotiate peace. This plan did not work as the north won and the war continued for 2 more years. This was the bloodiest battle of the Civil War.
