Total wellness can be described in may ways. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) defines it as a "A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." This means that it is a perfect balance of being healthy emotionally, mentally, and physically. Another perspective of total wellness is the balance between soul, mind, and body which all helps you to benefit your well-being.
National Wellness is celebrated every year during the third week of September!
THE EIGHT DIMENSIONS
There are eight dimensions, or parts, of total wellness. The eight dimensions are emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social, and spiritual. These part come together as a whole to create total wellness. They describe each category that affects your general well-being. A certified wellness coach and registered nurse named Laura Crooks says that all of these parts affect a persons physical and mental wellness. It is important to maintain a healthy balance in each area because each category effects another. Think of it as the planets. The sun provides light to keep all planets healthy. However, if one planet left the solar system it would affect all of the other planets placements, sun light, good source, and daylight. You must maintain a consistent level of healthiness in order to stay healthy as a whole.
