Conflict helped Ponyboy realize that the Socs and Greasers aren't very different. For example, after Johnny killed Bob and Ponyboy came back to town, Randy talked to Pony about how he wasn't going to show at the rumble. "Socs were just guys after all. Things were rough all over, but it was better that way. That way you could tell the other guy was human too."(pg. 118). This quote shows that even though the Greasers and Socs are different in some ways, they are still human beings.
The setting affects Ponyboy by limiting him. The setting limits Ponyboy because since the setting is dangerous to be alone in. This is because of the Socs in this area. Steve said, "What were you doin', walkin' by your lonesome?"(pg. 13). This shows that even his friends think he shouldn't be out by himself. This picture is an example of Ponyboy getting jumped at the beginning of the story.
Darry affects Ponyboy in many different ways. In this scene, Darry is very upset and frustrated with Ponyboy because Pony was out for so long. Since Darry was so frustrated, Darry hits Ponyboy very hard. "I was running away. It was plain to me that Darry didn't want me around."(pg. 50). This affects him by making him think that Darry doesn't love him, even though he does.
