  • Chinese immigrant workers were brought to the U.S. to build the western tracks of the railroad. They had to use Nitroglycerin, a highly unstable liquid explosive, to make the tunnels for the railroads.
  • Hurry up!!
  • After the railroad was done, many Chinese immigrants stayed. But White Americans wanted to get rid of them. They would kill and treat the Chinese unfairly.
  • All these China men are taking our jobs!
  • Yeah! They should go back to were they came from!
  • In the 1870s, California made it illegal to hire a Chinese worker.
  • We Don't Hire Chinese
  • In 1882, the U.S. passed the Chinese Exclusion Act which meant they would kick out and not let Chinese immigrants in. This was the first time the U.S. excluded a group because o their race.
  • In 1965, the U.S. Immigration Act ended the Chinese Exclusion Act. Together, Asians, Latinos and Blacks all came together to fight for their rights!
