  • knock knock*
  • Come in!
  • Well, I've been trying and trying and I just don't get this math topic!! Can you help me?
  • Math
  • Hey Billy! Oh no... what's wrong?
  • Oh, thank you, Mare! What would I do without my favorite older sister?
  • Math
  • Come on! Follow me. I have a plan.
  • Ok. So I need to know the definition of a ratio, rate, and unit rate. And I don't get any of it.
  • ...
  • Alright. Let's start with a ratio.
  • A ratio is a comparison of two or more quantities. Think with me back to last week at the candy store.
  • Yeah. I remember. 6 peppermints and 3 lollipops. I remember because I wanted those. But what does candy have to do with math?
  • Do you remember how many peppermints and lollipops there were?
  • Well, that's a perfect example of a ratio right there. The amount of peppermints to lollipops is 6 to 3, or 6:3. You can also simplify it to 2:1.
  • Oh! I think I get it now! What about rates or unit rates?
