  • Hey James, what's going on? You asked me to come over?
  • However, I unfortunately do not have the money to pay for weekly sessions with the therapist.
  • Well, I just went to go see a therapist for a tryout session and he told me that the reason I have been feeling different lately is because I have been struggling with depression, and that I need to work on improving my mental health.
  • Ah man, I'm really sorry that you are going through this dude. Although, if you want I know a little bit about improving mental health after taking my psychology course in University.
  • Anything for you James, now let's get started.  
  • Oh really!? That would help a lot man, thank you.
  • Firstly, one way to improve your mental well being is by opening up to someone. Explain to them what you are experiencing, that way you can understand how you are feeling.
  • So, me opening up to you is actually a good thing for me?
  • Exactly! It never hurts to talk.
  • Secondly, Keep yourself active. Many people exercise or play sports to occupy themselves. Exercise can help release chemicals like endorphins which helps reduce stress levels and symptoms of mental health conditions like anxiety and depression.
  • Well, I play hockey every Tuesday and Thursday, and I usually feel the best when I’m on the ice.
  • That’s Great! If you keep yourself active the less you will struggle with stress and mental illness..
  • And Finally, It is important to focus and improve on our mental health now rather than later. By avoiding or delaying treatment or not using strategies such as examples 1 and 2, you can continue to struggle with mental illness for the rest of your life, This can increase the risk of developing physical problems such as diabetes or heart disease.
