  • This is where the Framers came to make the Constitution.....
  • Hey! We can compromise for both sides! Congress will have the power to tax imports and not exports.
  • While making the constitution, there was debate over representation, slaves, and federalists vs. anti-federalits.
  • "Congress should be made up based on population!"
  • Hey! We can compromise for that too! This new constitution will give us power not touch the slave trade for 20 years after ratification, That way everyone is happy!
  • No! Congress should be made up by the number of states!
  • There should just be a compromise, where congress is split by 2. House of Reps for population and a Senate based on state voting
  • No! A federal government will keep our system organized and balanced
  • Hold up! We have added 10 amendments that will satisfy all and their individual rights.
  • What about our slaves? They can't possibly all be represented!
  • A federal government will give some individuals too much power!
  • Slaves should be count in some way, so we should do 3/5ths!
  • 2 more main debates on the Constitution were about whether to represent slaves and the debate over a federal government. They were settled with compromises shaping our constitution...
  • Trade was also an issue before ratification of the constitution.....
  • Having no taxes will kill our northern industry!
  • This new government is going to ruin our way of income with trade and slaves!
  • The slave population is growing way too high, trading needs to be stopped!
  • No! If the slave trade ends, our economy is toast! Nobody touch the slave trade!
  • After the decision of representing every 3 out 5 slaves, the next issue on whether the slave trade should continue or not.....
  • After all the issues were settled that the Articles caused, the Constitution was ratified on June 21st, 1788. Amendments have been added over the years to better shape our country an how it can run in the future.
