  • IT IS DARK, AND PUMICE PEBBLES RAIN FROM THE SKY.
  • AUGUST 24, 79 AD
  • PYROCLASTIC FLOWS WERE THE WORST
  • HOT GAS AND DUST, THEY COULD DESTROY WHOLE BUILDINGS
  • THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS
  • THE VOLCANO POSED MANY THREATS
  • THEY THOUGHT THEY'D ANGERED JUPITER
  • THE VOLCANO DIDN'T ACTUALLY ERUPT LAVA
  • THE ROMANS DIDN'T KNOW THE ERUPTION WAS NATURAL 
  • ITS PYROCLASTIC FLOWS AND POISONOUS GAS WERE FAR WORSE 
  • AS A RESULT, ROMANS QUICKLY WERE NOT ABLE TO BREATHE
  • POISONOUS GASES OOZED FROM THE VOLCANO
  • THE DANGEROUS FLOWS CAUSED BUILDINGS TO QUICKLY COLLAPSE
  • ASH, ROCKS, AND GRAVEL COVERED THE CITY
  • PRESERVING DETAILS OF BODIES AND BUILDINGS
  • AS THE TOWN FELL INTO RUINS, EVERYONE WHO DIDN'T RUN DIED
  • TODAY, TOURISTS FLOCK THE SITE TO CATCH A RARE GLIMPSE
