Tom is in schock when he discovers his mistress dead on the side of the road. He is very upset and bewildered.

Daisy was driving, but i am going to cover for her.
A negro comes to the accident and tells the police office that the person who killed Myrtle was driving a yellow car. Gatsby’s car fits this description. This lets the audience and Tom know that it must have been Gatsby who killed Myrtle.
It was a yellow car.
Gatsby is hiding outside the Buchanan’s house because he want to protect Daisy. Gatsby is afraid that Tom will beat her. Gatsby calls over Nick to talk to him about the accident.
Nick asked Gatsby if Daisy was driving. To everyones surprise, it was Daisy who was driving. Gatsby decides to take the blame for her. He loves her so much he is willing to say that he was the one who was driving.
