...Why did you have to leave? I'm so terribly unhappy with my life now! Tom has another woman...
I just had to. I didn't want to...but I still love you. I have all this time.
Oh...well...truth be told, I didn't want to marry Tom in the first place...I still love you as well
Then leave Tom, and come back to me! I'd never even think of cheating on you!
I couldn't possibly, as much as I want to! We...we also have a child...
The point of view, depending on whose it is, can tell you either very little or just about everything about what is happening. In this case, the story is only written from Nick's point of view, so nobody really knows what's going through anyone else's head. I think their conversation went something like this because it's obvious that Daisy never really wanted to marry Tom, and probably always secretly wished she could be with Gatsby again. You can also tell quite easily that Gatsby still loves her very much. Yet despite all of this, Daisy is likely very hesitant about leaving Tom.
