  • Cavour realized the only way to take over italy was with Austria.
  • In Piedmont-Sardinia, there was a prime minister named Camillo di Cavour. Cavour set out to gain control of Northern Italy for Sardinia.
  • Cavour soon started to help nationalist rebels in southern italy.
  • The Unification of Southern Italy
  • Garbaldi led the nationalist group, known as the (Red Shirts), the successfully captured Sicily.
  • After Garbaldi completely took control of Southern Itay, the people decided to untie with the north.
  • Unification of Italy
  • Italy was declared a United-Nation State under the Sardinian king Victor Immanuel. Realpolitik continued to work for the Italian nation.
  • Italy was neither a nation or a state because it was under foreign rules.
  • Italian nationalists looked for leadership to unite the states together. Cavour used the power of his office to unify Italy.
