  • The steam engine was developed by James Watt. It was a useful and convenient source for energy. Coal was used to heat water and that water would turn to steam. The steam engine was used for railroads and other types of transportation.

Railroads also created thousands of new jobs both railroad workers and miners. They also boosted England’s agricultural and fishing industries. Finally, it encouraged people to take distant jobs.
