  • Social Inequality
  • Mom, I want to go to school to get a good job Sorry son, we don't have that kind of money
  • Karl Marx 3 Class Model
  • Capitalism by definition is "an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state." It is when a small population of people control and possess most of the money in an economy
  • Ideology
  • Social Inequality by definition is "the unequal opportunities and rewards for different social positions or statuses within a group or society" meaning that the more wealthier you are, the brighter your future is. More money means that you have more opportunities to be successful
  • Example #1
  • With Karl Marx's 3 Class model, three levels of society are noted. The highest being Upperclass/ Bourgeoisie who own means of production and labour of others, Middle class/ Petite Bourgeoisie who own certain amount of production and Proletariat/ Lower class who owns no means of production and sell their labour
  • Example #2
  • An ideology is a set of aims and ideas that directs one's goals, expectations, and actions. Often in which direct the futures of children and their future under the influence of their parents's profession and social status.
  • I want to have a profession in music but my parents wouldn't like that since they're doctors and lawyers
  • In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Karl Marx's 3 class model can be seen through the characters as Atticus can model the Middle Class/ Petite Bourgeoisie, while he can be seen as high class, he does possess the wealth but no means of production and also sells his labour
  • While Atticus can be seen as middle class, Tom Robinson on the other hand can be seen as lower class, as he is a worker and has little to no wealth while selling his labour, in addition to being part of the minority during the time setting within the book's storyline.
