It was a beautiful bright sunny day and a mountain goat was trotting along the side of a volcano. The volcano was about to erupt and there was nothing the mountain goat could do.
The mountain goat was burried alive by the volcanic ash, very quickly.
Over millions of years, materials form on top of the mountain goat, causing it to turn into stone.
The volcano eroded away after millions of years.
The cells in the fossil are replaced by minerals from layers above.
The fossil is complete and has been exposed from the rain.
Hey Mom! Look what I found!
